Air fryer apples are a quick and easy treat!

I've always been a sucker for the apple-cinnamon combo, and these Air Fryer Baked Apples are my new favorite way to enjoy it. Like my cinnamon tortilla chips, this easy air fryer recipe gives major fall vibes--but you can enjoy it any time of year!

As a bonus, this recipe is super easy. There's no preheating, just a handful of ingredients, and you don't even need to peel the apples (although you can if you prefer.) In less than 20 minutes you can be enjoying this delicious treat!

Serve atop vegan yogurt for a delicious breakfast or over ice cream as a dessert! Air -fried apples can be eaten right away or stored for later and served chilled. Enjoy!

Ingredients

Here's what you need to make this recipe.

Ingredients for air fryer apples.
Here's all you need to make these easy air fryer apples!
  • apples -- I used Pink Lady Apples, but any kind will do. Go for medium-sized apples if you can.
  • maple syrup -- For sweetness and flavor.
  • cinnamon -- For flavor.
  • vegan butter -- A little butter helps add richness to the dish.
  • salt -- Just a bit of salt helps enhance the flavors.

See recipe card for quantities.

Instructions

Here are step-by-step instructions with photos.

Chopped apples on a cutting board with a knife.

Chop the apples into bites-sized cubes (about ½ inch cubes). No need to peel the apples!

Apples in a bowl mixed with cinnamon and maple syrup.

Add the apple cubes, maple syrup, cinnamon, and salt to a mixing bowl. Mix until the apples are evenly coated.

Cinnamon apples in an air fryer.

Add the apples to a lined air fryer basket. Break the butter into small chunks and drop them over the apples.

Air fried apples.

Cook the apples for 10 to 12 minutes on 400F or 200C. (No need to preheat!) Serve right away or let cool and store for later.

Hint: This recipe can get a bit messy. I recommend using an air fryer liner to keep more flavor on the apples and make cleanup a snap!

Variations

Here are some fun ways to switch things up!

  • Raisins - add a handful or raisins or craisins for even more flavor and texture.
  • Pears - try this recipe using pears instead of apples.
  • Spiced Pecans - Add some crunch by topping them with these air fryer spiced pecans.

How to serve

Serve these Air Fryer Cinnamon Apples as a delicious breakfast, snack, or dessert. They'd even make a great Thanksgiving side dish. I love them as a stand-alone dish, or serve them atop vegan yogurt or ice cream with a sprinkle of granola.

Storage

Store air fryer apples in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Leftovers can be eaten cold or reheated in an air fryer, microwave, or skillet.

Top tip

Get ahead of your meal-prep and double the batch!

FAQ

What kind of apples should I use?

I used Pink Lady Apples because they're my favorite and I love that they are both sweet and tart. But feel free to use any apples you have on hand.

Do I need a special liner?

I prefer to use air fryer basket liners because they're a perfect fit, but if you don't have that, you could use regular baking paper that's folded up at the edges.

What kind of air fryer should I buy?

Choose the air fryer that best meets your needs. Consider things like price, size, and functionality. I personally love my Ninja Foodi 5-in-1 Grill and Air Fryer, because it has a bigger capacity, which better suits my family of four.

Air Fryer and food safety tips

Here are a few safety tips for cooking with an air fryer.

  • Cook food to a minimum temperature of 165 °F (74 °C)
  • Use oils with a high smoking point to avoid harmful compounds
  • Always use oven mitts or some protective hand covering when shaking the basket or removing food from the air fryer.
  • Hot air comes out the back of the air fryer. Try to keep the back of the air fryer at least a hands length away from the wall, other ingredients, or anything else that could be damaged by heat.

See more guidelines at USDA.gov.
