These Air Fryer Cubed Sweet Potatoes can be made in less time than oven-roasted and make an easy, flavorful addition to any meal. They're seasoned with cumin and garlic but you can easily switch up your spices to make them fit with any dish!

I love adding sweet potatoes to a variety of dishes like salads, bowls, and curries--or just serving them as a stand-alone side dish! And this Air Fryer Sweet Potato Cubes recipe is the perfect, easy way to cook them.
One thing I love about this recipe is that it's quicker than roasting sweet potatoes in the oven. Since some of my other family members aren't so fond of sweet potatoes, I often make them for lunch, and roasting them in the air fryer saves time.
Speaking of saving time, these sweet potatoes are perfect for meal prepping. Just make a batch and divvy them up into 4 to 5 portions that you can add to various meals throughout the week.

Ingredients
Here's what you need to make air fryer sweet potato cubes.
- sweet potatoes -- Any variety of sweet potato or yam should work fine. I used 3 medium-sized sweet potatoes.
- oil -- Cooking oil of choice. I used olive oil.
- cumin -- This warm and smokey spice pairs perfectly with sweet potatoes.
- garlic powder -- For a little extra flavor.
- salt -- To enhance the other flavors.
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions
Here are step-by-step instructions with photos.
- Preheat the air fryer to 375F or 190C.
- Wash the potatoes and remove the ends and any bad spots. Dice the potatoes into small cubes (about ½ inch). (No need to peel!)
- Add the diced sweet potatoes to a mixing bowl and toss with the oil until all of the cubes are evenly coated.
- Sprinkle on the seasonings and mix until all of the sweet potato cubes are evenly coated.
- Transfer the sweet potato cubes to a lined air fryer basket. Cook for 20 to 25 minutes, shaking the basket halfway, until the potatoes are fully cooked and nicely browned.
- Serve and enjoy right away!
Hint: Spread the sweet potatoes in an even layer. It's okay if they are a little cramped at first because they will reduce in size as they cook. But if they are stacked too high, you can cook them in batches.
Variations
Here are some easy ways to switch things up.
- Spicy - add a ½ teaspoon of chili powder for medium spicy or a ½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper for spicy sweet potatoes.
- Paprika - swap either regular (sweet) or smoked paprika for even more flavor variety.
- Curried - swap the garlic and cumin for a teaspoon of curry powder.
- Sweet - Toss them with vegan butter, maple syrup, and cinnamon. Then top with Air Fryer Spiced Pecans!
- Purple - Purple sweet potatoes are a little starchier and might take a tad longer to cook, but they are a fun way to get more colors in your diet!

For this recipe, you need an air fryer, a cutting board, a knife, and a mixing bowl. A liner is also helpful for easier cleanup, but not absolutely necessary for this recipe.

How to serve
Serve these air fryer sweet potato cubes as a stand-alone side dish. Or pair them with these sweet and spicy Brussels sprouts.
Air Fryer sweet potatoes could also be added to a breakfast bowl or burrito. Or combine them with black beans, spinach, any grain, and your favorite dressing for an easy lunch bowl.
You could also add sweet potato chunks to a Spinach Salad or this Sweet Potato Chickpea Curry.
Storage
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week or freeze for up to three months. Reheat in the air fryer or a skillet, or serve them cold atop a salad.

These air fryer sweet potato cubes are super versatile. Play around with different seasoning combos to make them fit any type of dish or cuisine!
FAQ
You can make these oil-free. Just use another liquid (like water, aquafaba, or lime juice) in place of the oil to help the seasonings stick.
Choose the air fryer that best meets your needs. Consider things like price, size, and functionality. I personally love my Ninja Foodi 5-in-1 Grill and Air Fryer, because it has a bigger capacity, which better suits my family of four.

Air Fryer Cubed Sweet Potatoes
Ingredients
- 1 pound sweet potatoes
- 1 tablespoon cooking oil
- ½ teaspoon cumin
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspsoon salt
Instructions
Serve and enjoy right away!
Notes
- I used 3 medium-sized sweet potatoes that weighed a little over 1 pound together. After chopping off the ends and removing any bad spots, they weighed about 1 pound.
- If you use a liner, do not put it in the basket while the air fryer is preheating. Only add the liner before you add the potatoes. (Putting the liner in without food is unsafe because the liner will rise and come into contact with the heating element, which could start a fire.)

Air Fryer and food safety tips
Here are a few safety tips for cooking with an air fryer.
- Cook food to a minimum temperature of 165 °F (74 °C)
- Use oils with a high smoking point to avoid harmful compounds
- Always use oven mitts or some protective hand covering when shaking the basket or removing food from the air fryer.
- Hot air comes out the back of the air fryer. Try to keep the back of the air fryer at least a hands length away from the wall, other ingredients, or anything else that could be damaged by heat.
